We gave our barn a facelift last year; 7 stalls inside, 2 small run-in's outside; we painted the barn, re-cemented the runway, and we added 4 of these Royal Rubber Horse Stall Mats to each stall. TSC loved us when I ran my debit card through to pay for them! Before using the mats, I had dirt floors and if the horses stayed in the stall more than a few hours, I found myself mucking heavy, wet, smelly wheel barrels of shavings mixed with stall mud which is back breaking and exhausting - and that is even after using wood chips. Now, it is painless when I muck the stalls, the barn looks new, very clean and smells a lot better (although horse smells really don't bother me at all). They are easy to install and they stay locked together well. They also helped us level up one stall that was constantly sagging because we could place some decent fine gravel in the sagging area and the mat over top of it. This meant everything to the horse who had arthritis in his front knee joint. Buy them - - they are worth it.
When you compare the price of TSC's wood shavings to other brands, you will find that TSC chips are less expensive than most. While I find it appauling to buy chipped wood, which I dump into my stalls and then muck it out to dump into a compose pile (seems like wasted money), I do know a clean, dry stall is extremely important for our horse's health, so I choose this brand for the value. They are a bit smaller but you do not waste as much that way when you muck if you have a decent muck fork. Give them a try. They smell pretty good too.
Our horse had gone through a couple of bad colics in a short period of time and thankfully we did not loose her but after the second one our vet told us to add an electrolyte supplement to her diet so we bought Dumor Horse Electrolyte Supplement from Tractor Supply. She has not gone through another colic in over eighteen months. I believe this supplement made the difference.
